Questions & Answers

How salty is the water?
Approximately one-ninth (1/9th) as salty as sea water, or just half as salty as your own tears. Do your own taste test - add half an ounce of salt to a gallon of fresh water. you will find that the salinity is very mild and the water pleasant to taste.

Will the salt corrode my pool or the pool equipment?
No. The salt level is not sufficiently high to create a corrosion problem. The salinity is similar to that of eye-wash solutions (very mild). If corrosion was a problem, ECO-MATIC simply could not have enjoyed worldwide success since 1976.

Will I need to change my pool water?
In most cases, no. We only encourage changing the water if its hardness and dissolved solids level suggest that it should be changed anyway (if it already has too much "gunk" in it).

Can existing pools (and spas) be converted to ECO-MATIC?
Yes. Virtually any existing new pool or spa can easily be converted to the salt water system, without the need to alter the pump or filter equipment.

How easy is it to install ECO-MATIC?
Installation usually takes 1 - 2 hours. ECO-MATIC hardware is mounted near the filter equipment (no components and no electrics need to be attached inside the pool). Existing pool equipment need not be altered. Many pool owners install ECO-MATIC themselves.

How often do I need to add salt?
Salt is addded at the time of installation. After that, only top-up salt needs to be added, to make up for salt lost due to splash-out, filter back-flushing, leaks in the pool etc. Your ECO-MATIC will automatically indicate when salt is needed (on average, 2 or 3 times per year).

Does ECO-MATIC effect the pH?
The ECO-MATIC process is close to pH-neutral and therefore has less effect on pH than does most "pool chlorine". The pH must be controlled, as before, and is influenced mostly by the Total Alkalinity of the water (as is the case with any pool or spa).

Can I measure ECO-MATIC'S effectiveness?
Yes. Unlike some other so-called "alternatives", ECO-MATIC'seffectiveness can be measured using normal pool Test Kits - providing you with the assurance that your pool/spa water is healthy and safe for swimming.

Will I need to increase pump operating time?
No. ECO-MATIC comes in various sizes, to suit your pool size and normally recommended filter operation times.

What warranties come with ECO-MATIC?
Our realistic warranties ensure that your ECO-MATIC will not let you down. Ask your local Dealer for details of warranties, extended warranty and our MONEY-BACK Guarantee.

Why have I not previously heard of the salt water system?
Reluctance to change age-old chemical habits has the USA pool industry lagging behind the countries where natural salt dominates pool and spa water purification. At last, the trend away from packaged chemicals is now well under way in the USA.

What are the disadvantages of ECO-MATIC?
We can't think of any. Some pool owners have initial doubts about swimming in mild sat water, but inevitably it IS the fantastic feeling of the water which ECO-MATIC owners like most. (You must also be prepared for frequent visits from friends and neighbors who still have "chemical" pools).
